Xorg Server Xrandr HiDpi crashing on scale

Hi,

I am trying to configure a dual monitor setup with a FHD (1920x1080) (DP1) external monitor using VGA cable and Laptop Monitor (eDP1) (HiDpi 3200x1800). I have used the following command to scale the hidpi with xrandr. I have an intel and nvidia graphic card.

xrandr --output eDP1 --auto --output DP1 --auto --panning 3840x2160+3200+0 --scale 2x2 --right-of eDP1 --dpi 276

However after sometime (around 10-20 minutes) the X server Crashes and returns to the login screen.

The display works fine without the scale option so I don't think its a hardware issue

 xrandr --output eDP1 --mode 3200x1800 --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of eDP1

But then the font and icons on the external monitor is too big.

I have tried disabling bumblebee in case it was an issue with the nvidia card.

The Xserver log file

Re: Xorg Server Xrandr HiDpi crashing on scale

Don't use the intel driver, it's mostly unmaintained and can have all sorts of issues with the new Xorg. Use the built-in modesetting driver instead (simply removing xf86-video-intel should be enough)

Re: Xorg Server Xrandr HiDpi crashing on scale

I removed the xf86-video-intel driver but startx fails with no device found and no screen found errors. I have removed 20-intel.conf also.

Re: Xorg Server Xrandr HiDpi crashing on scale

You still have the intel driver in that log. It should fail to load the intel module. How did you "remove" xf86-video-intel, which command did you use? Can you post your /var/log/pacman.log from a reasonable timeframe?

Re: Xorg Server Xrandr HiDpi crashing on scale

Nvm, I reduced the resolution of my HiDpi monitor display and then reduced the dpi to 144 for 1920x1080. It works fine now (without crashing) since I am no longer scaling the display.

I used sudo pacman -Rs xf86-video-intel to remove the intel driver. I am pretty sure it was removed since startx failed after that.
