I'm not sure if this belongs here, or maybe in System Adm; I'm posting it here as it happened right after last kernel update yesterday. At bootup, I noticed the following error:
https://s19.postimg.org/nebtrwxwj/20170127_111011.jpg
It still boots normally and I can't find any problem whatsoever, but I wondered the reason for this.

I'm getting this error at boot after upgrading to the new 4.9.6 kernel. System boots up without any issues and everything seems to be working fine. From my understanding, this is a backlight related debug message. I would appreciate it if anyone can shed a bit more light on this issue.

I'm using GRUB as a bootloader.
I'm using systemd-boot and I'm not getting any bootloader problems.
I'm wondering whether the acpi errors are previously suppressed errors being put forward.
For your grub error, perhaps take a look at this: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=238220

I don't think I have the same issue as the user on that thread. I just looked at my fstab and everything looks correctly set up and even if it weren't it would be very weird that it just now starts throwing that error since I haven't changed my fstab since installing Arch. I also don't get a message regarding emergency mode, it boots up normally after that error message.
I'm wondering whether the acpi errors are previously suppressed errors being put forward.
Maybe, but I'd still rather report this weird new behavior before it becomes an issue.

EDIT:
After some googling it seems this isn't a new issue or one to be worried about. I found this page to suppress the messages https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Silent_boot
I used "quiet loglevel=3" loglevel=4 seems to be the standard and loglevel=5 was just scary - several more errors showed themselves!

I never saw them, but they could have easily been there. I agree with @Glinx conclusion; it seems like logging has been changed.

@Glinx thank you for loglevel=3, it works.
On my computer I always had the errors, just that they were not displayed on console. As a practice, from time to time and always after updating kernel I run:
journalctl -b -p warning
to see warnings and errors or
journalctl -b -p err
to see only the errors.
With kernel 4.9, errors are displayed on console at the default loglevel.
Nothing to worry.

@Zohran and @newbie1962 your systems appear to be the only ones that can not boot post upgrade to 4.9.6
There is not enough information to know if the failure to boot is related to acpi.
Would suggest you start by trying adjusting Kernel_parameters, see kernel-parameters for full list of parameters. Initially would try "acpi=off" to disable the acpi subsystem if the system still fails to boot "loglevl=7" and remove the quiet parameter if it is present.
May also be useful to post the pacman.log of the update containing the kernel upgrade.
Edit:
Possibly a third none booting system https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=222427

and my media laptop which is much older (toshiba a300, p7450) doesnt have these errors after the same update today.
EDIT: just did some digging around and sure enough the errors have always been there but the previous kernels just ignored them.

This error was already there in 4.8 hidden in dmesg, it's just that it's now printed to the terminal since 4.9.6
I've opened up a bug report in kernel bug tracker for this and for 4.10 or 4.11 there is already a patch. It doesn't seem to affect any functionality though.
Here is the bug report for interested people: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=192501

So, that means this is nothing to worry about? As I said, I didn't notice anything wrong beyond those messages. Guess we'll have to learn to live with them.
