can't mount my kindle

Hi.

I can't mount my kindle. It seems there are no partitions. It's on sdb as you can see from this output.

    $ ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/usb-Kindle_Internal_Storage_B009A1A0045314F4-0\:0
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Sep  7 21:35 /dev/disk/by-id/usb-Kindle_Internal_Storage_B009A1A0045314F4-0:0 -> ../../sdb

The next command shows a lot of other /dev/sd*.

    ls /dev/sd*
    /dev/sda   /dev/sda2  /dev/sdc  /dev/sde
    /dev/sda1  /dev/sdb   /dev/sdd  /dev/sdf

I have the same issue with my heart rate monitor device, so I think this is general for all usb stuff.

Thanks

Re: can't mount my kindle

$ ls -1 /dev/disk/by-id/*Kindle*
usb-Kindle_Internal_Storage_B00E15011436041D-0:0
usb-Kindle_Internal_Storage_B00E15011436041D-0:0-part1

$ lsusb

Wandering through old posts from people with your problem, I wonder:
⁣    Do you have gvfs installed?
⁣    Do you have libmtp installed?

Yes. They are installed

[wilmer@arch ~]$ sudo pacmatic -S libmtp gvfs

The rest of the output. Lab126 must be the kindle

[wilmer@arch ~]$ ls -1 /dev/disk/by-id/*Kindle*

Re: can't mount my kindle

There is a similar problem with a workaround documented at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1439431.  I don't know if it applies to your problem.

Re: can't mount my kindle

Old thread, but this can help others to find possible solution faster.

It started detecting the partition after I changed cable and did

sudo modprobe msdos

before connecting Kindle again.

Not sure whether the cable change or module load fixed that, but it works fine now.
