Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

Single Nvidia discrete card no xorg config files.
Packages upgraded

nvidia-utils-378.13-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz libglvnd-0.2.999+g4ba53457-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz mesa-17.0.0-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

nvidia-utils conflict removed nvidia-libgl as expected,  all working as expected.
Just of note there were two warnings of dependency cycles.

warning: dependency cycle detected:
warning: libglvnd will be installed before its nvidia-utils dependency
warning: dependency cycle detected:
warning: mesa will be installed before its libglvnd dependency

The dependency cycle is expected because nvidia/mesa depends on libglvnd, but libglvnd which provide libgl/libegl/libgles depends on an opengl driver (mesa/nvidia)

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

First results; it did not break my current system setup smile

I'm running a system with two GeForce GTX970 cards. I'm using an Xorg config file to run 2 monitors off of the primary card and 1 off of the secondary. All screens form 1 X-screen, spanned horizontally.
I'll most likely be unable to do any further testing until the weekend but at least the changes did not break the current configurations so that's nice smile

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

Everything work as before the update. Running intel with nividia Geforce GT 745M.

In fact, the only behavior I got for a long time is that I can't start optirun after my laptop suspend.

[ 1057.699198] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: Could not enable discrete graphics card

[ 1057.699218] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

Anyone know how to correct this.
The only thing that work is a reboot.

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

Hi, I saw it was mentioned that

with an updated 10-nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf file that should help to have an "out-of-the-box" working xorg-server experience with optimus system

does "optimus system" here mean the configuration using proprietary driver?

I remember that the update a few days ago broke that configuration. So what do I need now to use that? Only the xrandr commands?

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I'm having issues with nouveau using d3d9 and glvnd running via xwayland. I rolled back to old xserver and old mesa, things worked.  Compiled old mesa with lib-glvnd-backed xserver and things did not work.  I believe I tried old xserver with new mesa with no issues a few days ago, but I am experiencing different issues with mesa git today.  Non-nine mesa works okay, but something in that change seems to cause the game I am playing (Diablo 3) to crash on load without much detail.

that means I can drop bumblebee/bbswitch?

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I use nouveau. Pacman removed mesa-libgl and installed libglvnd. Upon restart, X became completely unusable and would lock the display.

00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] (rev a2)
02:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 HDMI Audio Controller (rev a1)

GF119 is the card in use. X unusable until I installed nvidia and nvidia-utils. No warning.

ETA: urbanterror was working under Nouveau. nvidia performance is unusably slow.

ETA: Urban Terror now working with nvidia and opencl-nvidia.

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I still have to have

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto

in my /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup , otherwise X won't start (some 'couldn't open display for dpi computation' error).

The only problem I noticed until now is that Chrome doesn't like the new setup (log from chrome://gpu : http://pastebin.com/ZQVMPj6i) and youtube videos just spaz out. (Chromium works though...)
I will do further testing later today.
EDIT: Maybe screen tearing got worse but at least it's still very noticeable

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

After last upgrade, what I noticed is (asus n76vz intel+nvidia using KDE (with startx, without login managers), nvidia proprietary, bumblebee)

- transparency does not work any more: I have transparency enabled for yakuake and now it's opaque, while I resize/move a window, it became transparent, now it doesn't
- screen edges in kde (show all desktops/apps etc) are not working any more (they are still enabled, I've toggled them off and back on in kde's settings just to eliminate possibility to be  a kde upgrade bug)

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I have an Asus laptop with an nVidia GT218M card.
nvidia-340xx is installed.

After upgrade, sddm freezes.
xinit works but report the following error:
"Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)"

kde is unusable (plasma complains about lacking openGL)

Any suggestion on this are welcome...

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

The update breaks Xorg on radeon (R9 290X). I'm getting SEGFAULT when starting the sddm-greeter.
I was forced to rollback to stable repositories to fix the issue.
However, the update was done smoothly on Skylake laptop. Seems works fine without any issues.

It seems that updating broke vaapi for me.

[kierek@kierekDesktop ~]$ vainfo

Can you open a bug report ? found this redhat bugzilla https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1422151

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

Using Nvidia GTX970 with proprietary driver, everything related to OpenGL is working fine, but GDM is very sluggish.. This is in the journal:

kernel: [drm:nvidia_drm_gem_import_nvkms_memory [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to import NVKMS memory to GEM object

Edit: never mind, went away when I disabled DRM KMS. Likely unrelated, sorry!

Still not working, but this time with a different output:

I'm on Gnome 3 Wayland.

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I recently got a new laptop and have been using nouveau as I couldn't get the nvidia driver to work properly.

I enabled the testing repo and updated, which pulled in the following possibly-relevent packages:

sudo pacman -Syu
...
testing/libglvnd                                      0.2.999+g4ba53457-1           1.57 MiB
testing/linux             4.9.11-1                    4.10.1-1                      0.35 MiB
testing/linux-firmware    20170217.12987ca-2          20170227.5abb924-1            0.26 MiB      40.51 MiB
testing/mesa              17.0.0-2                    17.0.0-3                      1.93 MiB       9.18 MiB
mesa-libgl                17.0.0-2                                                  0.00 MiB
testing/xf86-video-intel  1:2.99.917+757+g93942b7d-1  1:2.99.917+760+ge9cd8c21-1    0.00 MiB       0.66 MiB

Rebooted, everything worked fine so I installed the nvidia drivers (after uninstalling virtualbox because of a dependency clash):

sudo pacman -Sy nvidia
...
testing/libglvnd                   0.2.999+g4ba53457-1    1.57 MiB       0.17 MiB
testing/linux         4.9.11-1     4.10.1-1               0.35 MiB      60.72 MiB
testing/nvidia-utils               378.13-5             101.96 MiB      21.34 MiB
testing/nvidia                     378.13-3               6.95 MiB       6.82 MiB

And added the following to /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup as per above:

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto

Rebooted and now the nvidia driver is running. I added the following to 20-nvidia.conf (the sole file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d) to fix a very small font size:

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName      "GeForce GTX 960M"

    Option         "DPI" "96 x 96"
    Option         "Coolbits" "12"
    Option         "TripleBuffer" "1"
EndSection

Everything seemed to work except steam (both steam and steam-native) which cannot start due to the following error:

libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

I installed lib32-nvidia-libgl, replacing lib32-mesa-libgl:

:: lib32-nvidia-libgl and lib32-mesa-libgl are in conflict (lib32-libgl). Remove lib32-mesa-libgl? [y/N] y

Package (4) Old Version New Version Net Change Download Size

multilib/lib32-libglvnd                   0.1.1.20161028-1.1    1.42 MiB       0.17 MiB
lib32-mesa-libgl             17.0.0-2                           0.00 MiB
multilib/lib32-nvidia-utils               378.13-1             91.82 MiB      19.46 MiB
multilib/lib32-nvidia-libgl               378.13-1              0.00 MiB       0.00 MiB

This broke sddm (it failed to come up on TTY1. `sudo journalctl -b` showed no errors). I tried to roll back by reinstalling lib32-mesa-libgl and uninstalling the lib32-nvidia-libgl dependencies:

sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/lib32-mesa-libgl-17.0.0-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
sudo pacman -Rs lib32-libglvnd lib32-nvidia-utils

sddm was still broken. I eventually fixed it by commenting out the Driver line in 20-nvidia.conf:

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
#    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName      "GeForce GTX 960M"

    Option         "DPI" "96 x 96"
    Option         "Coolbits" "12"
    Option         "TripleBuffer" "1"
EndSection

Now I'm not sure what to do. I don't know why commenting out my 20-nvidia.conf fixed sddm. The nvidia driver seems to be working, but without steam I have no reason to use it.
EDIT: Installing lib32-libglvnd doesn't make steam work, either.
EDIT 2: Installing lib32-nvidia-libgl while the Driver line above is commented is the key to getting steam to work. Games that previously ran slowly are now running great.

Also, am I supposed to add the new nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ or something like that?

- screen edges in kde (show all desktops/apps etc) are not working any more (they are still enabled, I've toggled them off and back on in kde's settings just to eliminate possibility to be  a kde upgrade bug)

My transparency was broken at first, too. Try going to System Settings → Display and Monitor → Compositor and see if there's a message along the lines of "compositing has been disabled because something has repeatedly caused the display server to hang" alongside a button to re-enable the compositor.

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

@shvelven lib32-nvidia-libgl has been dropped in testing. You should remove that and install lib32-nvidia-utils + lib32-mesa + lib32-libglvnd. I'm not sure why that isn't working for you, but installing lib32-nvidia-libgl is not the correct solution.

Re: [libglvnd] libglvnd support for mesa is now in testing

I already have those three installed:

warning: lib32-nvidia-utils-378.13-1 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: lib32-mesa-17.0.0-2 is up to date -- reinstalling
warning: lib32-libglvnd-0.1.1.20161028-1.1 is up to date -- reinstalling

If I try to uninstall lib32-nvidia-libgl (with `pacman -Rs lib32-nvidia-libgl`) I get

checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: lib32-cairo: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-freeglut: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-glew1.10: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-glu: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-libva: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-pango: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: lib32-sdl2: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'
:: steam: removing lib32-nvidia-libgl breaks dependency 'lib32-libgl'

Does lib32-libglvnd provide lib32-libgl? Would the correct action be to uninstall lib32-nvidia-libgl with `pacman -Rc lib32-nvidia-libgl`, then reinstall the packages that depended on it?

My transparency was broken at first, too. Try going to System Settings → Display and Monitor → Compositor and see if there's a message along the lines of "compositing has been disabled because something has repeatedly caused the display server to hang" alongside a button to re-enable the compositor.

Nope, no errors there, I have opengl 3 selected, I now tried all of them, both opengls are not working (3, 2) while Xrandr works. Anyways I'm on intel most of the time, running nvidia only using primusrun..
