Arch Linux x86 w/ kernel 4.4.51-1-lts . Up to date today.
Sometimes, in the middle of my work, my wireless network card (Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)) stops working. The connection dies and any attempt to scan for networks or connect to one, fails (I didn't write down the message.)
dmesg reports:
[49604.522280] iwl3945 0000:03:00.0: BSM uCode verification failed at addr 0x00003800+0 (of 900), is 0xa5a5a5a2, s/b 0xf802020
[49604.522288] iwl3945 0000:03:00.0: Unable to set up bootstrap uCode: -5
[49604.558642] iwl3945 0000:03:00.0: Unable to initialize device after 5 attempts.
(all 1352 lines here, beginning just before the connection is established).
Sometimes, reloading the modules I think are associated with the wireless card (iwl3945 iwlegacy mac80211 cfg80211) makes the card work again, but sometimes I can't use the card again until I restart the computer.
Is there a way to avoid this problem? I can't switch to a non-LTS kernel because that causes problems with s2ram. I have had this issue with a recent kernel anyway.
Is there a way to recover from this problem without restarting my computer if reloading the listed modules doesn't work?
