wpa_supplicant and access point mode

hi.
i am trying to configure a wireless lan interface as an access point.
When I configure this interface using hostapd and specify the bridge option, then when I run "brctl show", I see the wlan interface being added to the bridge automatically.
But when I configure the interface using wpa_supplicant and provide the bridge in the -b option, I don't see the wlan interface being added the bridge when I run brctl show. And so I have to manually add the interface. So is this the expected behavior when using wpa_supplicant.
