I was fillowing this thread, trying to enable a couple things on my system http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=22266When I try to start the avahi-daemon
/etc/rc.d/avahi-daemon start
the action FAILS.
I can't find any information about this in the forums.
Can anyone offer some advice?
Thx in advance!

Try starting dbus before starting avahi /etc/rc.d/./dbus start.

I tried both ways, in front and behind dbus, but neither will start avahi.
Am I missing some other service to be started? The failure is just noted as FAIL without any other information.

Check if pygtk is installed. I had to install it to get avahi working.

This should help http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Avahi

pygtk was installed, thx.
Folling the wiki, it's not clear to me what module should be listed in the MODULES section. I've tried avahi, and avahi-daemon, but neither seems to work.
Sorry for being obtuse, I'm not trying to be!

The module is called "capability", if you add that to your modules section then avahi-daemon should hopefully startup without the FAIL error.

I see, I thought capabilty was an adjective as it was used. I'll give it a try, thx!

I included
MODULES=( !usbserial capability )
and
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng acpid !hotplug network netfs !crond portmap fam avahi-daemon dbus hal samba cups)
but it still fails. Not a big deal. If someone has an idea I'll give it a shot.

Ok, put avahi-daemon after dbus in your daemons array and see if that works. I'm sure dbus needs to come first then avahi-daemon anywhere after that.

Beauty. Thanks!
