Have you tried following the wiki "how to" ?

try alsa-utils

Alsaconf is part of alsa-utils. It's also not really necessary any more for most people... Try installing alsa-utils and then running alsamixer - if your sound module has been loaded you should be able to unmute and change the volume on the necessary channels. Then add 'alsa' to your DAEMONS array in rc.conf, and the volumes will be stored when you shut down and restored on boot.
