[SOLVED] Skype sound issues (not with UI)

Hello,

I am having a similar problem than this topic. But I have pulseaudio-alsa installed, I have tried this solution and still nothing. I have installed skype from this package (latest version).

I would also like to add that when setting my speakers sound in skype in the settings  they are muted. And no matter what, even if I unmute them, when I go back into my settings, right after, they are mutted again. Concerning the microphone I don't know if that works (the only thing I can say is that it is permanently enabled).

My /etc/pulse/default is empty. My /etc/asound.conf is empty and so is my .asoundrc.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues (not with UI)

if your /etc/asound.conf is empty you either haven't installed pulseaudio-alsa or removed the file manually after the fact for some reason (or had a .pacnew file generated that you didn't replace the empty file with). Reinstall pulseaudio-alsa. If that doesn't fix it already try to record/play back/whatever in skype and post

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sink-inputs
pacmd list-source-outputs

Thank you very much for your help.

P.S: for the command pacmd list-cards, I had to translate myself some the output because some of it was not translated (even though I set LANG=en_US.UTF-8), so I am not sure of the exact translation.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype sound issues (not with UI)

Yes skype is accessing the wrong devices here. Make sure pulseaudio-alsa is installed and that your /etc/asound.conf contains mention that ALSA devices are redirected to pulse. Then set the "Default device" for both microphone and headset in skype. If you run the sink and source-commands respectively you should see a stream denoted as [ALSA plugin] skypeforlinux or similar.
