I've just upgraded to the latest madwifi-ng and wpa_suplicant from abs and I'm now getting this warnng when running iwconfig
Warning: Driver for device ath0 has been compiled with version 20
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 19.
Some things may be broken...
Ive tried building iwconfig from abs as well but that doesn't help.
I really need this running soon, please help.

I've just read in another thread that this message is harmless. It's because your kernel is newer than the wireless_tools package.

Yep - the current stable version of wireless_tools is 28, which supports versions 11 to 20 of the Wireless Extensions. The Arch package is still at version 28pre9, which only supports 11 to 19.
It's been flagged out-of-date, so expect the updated one sometime soon.

Could this affect wpa? Since the upgrade my wpa is bust and I'm not sure if it is madwifi, wpa_suplicant or wireless_tools.
I've got some tests I can do but does anyone have this setup and a working wpa?

My wireless decieded to stop working after the big update as well. I built a wireless_tools package for version 28 and all was fine after that. I'm using ipw so it's not exactly the same situation but wpa_supplicant would keep scanning and finding the ssid but then deciding it was unsuitable and loop through the scan again.

I've been away for a week which is why I needed an answer. I didn't get one so now I'm back I'll try doing another update and see if wireless tools has been updated and see if things start working again.

We've skipped 28 completely, and moved on to 29pre10. The warning will not be displayed, but as mentioned earlier, it was never a problem anyway.

Something was broken as wpa_suplicant stopped working but it could have been unrelated. I'll report back once I've dug the laptop out and had a play.
