I recently converted my computer from Windows to Arch, and I've been having trouble getting the wifi to work. My wifi chip is an Archer T1U, and it says it is supposed to be compatible with Linux, but I'm having trouble getting the drivers to work.
I've tried compiling multiple drivers, including the official one. I've also attempted to compile other drivers, but I've had no success either. It's possible that I'm having some issues with make, but I've installed gcc, so I'm not sure what could be wrong.
Any advice, suggestions about drivers, or help with make would be appreciated.

Welcome to the arch linux forums dragon18. What is the device Wireless_network_configuration#Check_the_driver_status specifically its VID:PID.

Post complete logs/output/versions/error messages What exact commands did you run and what was the output from each of those commands.
Edit:
I suspect you will need https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8188eu-git/ but need the VID:PID to confirm and also depending on what you have previously done there may be files from your manual driver installation that should be removed.

The device's VID:PID is 2357:0105. There was no description after it.

my problem is that this device id is not even included in that repo.
and yes I have looked at the PKGBUILD and the github page (and many other forks of this mediatek repo for that matter).
and I have tried many of these repos (some with the device ID added to config by the fork author) but most when they get compiled the built module doesn't have the device in it ( at least I don't see it with modinfo).
adding the device id to the rtusb_dev_id.c file didn't work for me.
maybe I need to change some other files too.
that was my request for help.
and by compatible you mean 3.10? as in 2.6-3.10 that is reported officially in tp-link website?
I wont be buying anymore tp-link crap.

Right, that is the same problem as frallanfree had and luben93 recommended him to check out a specific commit [1].
The latest supported kernel should be 4.6 since this package uses the repo from SmallDeadGuy. If you compile the module using different repos be sure to search for mt7650u_sta since sometimes this module might work as well.
Btw. MediaTek is at fault and their chips in general have horrible support for Linux.

This package is for the mt7610u chipset which is used by the WiFi dongles listed here [1]. Your device however is not among those [2]! A quick look at the wikidevi page [2] would have answered you that question. Plus it states that your dongle is using a Realtek chip to be precise the Realtek RTL8812AU . Therefore using one of the package which really do provide support for those might work for you [3].
Please do you research before posting to the comment section. The comments are mostly invaluable if you try to adapt this package and unnecessary comments hinder most users from taking them seriously.

This package provides support for the MediaTek MT7610U chip used in the WiFi dongles listed here [1].
Unfortunately the latest supported kernel is 4.6. This package currently uses the repository from SmallDeadGuy but it can easily be adapted to build from other sources. If you compile the module using a different repo be sure to search for mt7650u_sta as well since sometimes the names seem to be misused and the other module might work instead.
Btw. MediaTek in general has horrible support for Linux. In other words, welcome to the mighty journey of how to make you dongle work.
If you have written a patch which might enable a more stable experience or found new hints, please be sure to post them into the comment section. I will try to summarize all useful information in this comment.
* Users with an ID which is not included in the repo might consider taking a look at this commit [2] and adapt it to their needs (thanks luben93)
* Support for linux 4.8 was added to chenhaiq's repo [3], therefore you might consider switching the source. Remember to honor the possibly mixed up naming schema.

Ewaller, your suggestion worked. However, it didn't do anything. I'm assuming loqs's patch needs to be added.
Loqs, I'm a little confused by your instructions. I read the wiki page a few times, and I'm not sure where to start. Is there a link that I should follow to get the new files? Or should it patch itself automatically? Or what should I know?

To apply the patch you need to place the contents of my code block in a file in the mt7610u_sta-dkms-git then follow steps 1, 2 and 5
you can skip 3 and 4 as the PKGBUILD already has a prepare function and it changes into the correct directory as the first command in the prepare function.
You would add the patch command as the second command in the prepare function although performing 1 then 5 then 2 so updpksums is run last
and you only edit the PKGBUILD is my normal approach
$ cp ~/Documents/mt7610u_sta-dkms-git.patch . #replace this with placing the patch from my code block in a file in the $PKGDIR

This time there is no error from DKMS so it built and installed successfully but that is all I tested.
Edit:
There were errors from DKMS but that was because the previous time it failed to build successfully for either kernel so there is nothing for DKMS to locate.

Sorry the code block in question is in post #7 and I missed the fact this package does not actually build anything so I just applied the patch in the package function alternately you could add a prepare function.
The changes to the PKGBUILD shown as a diff in post #9 shows the changes I made, I added an entry to the sources array and added the patch line to the package function.

Everything compiled properly, but nothing changed. I still can't access my wifi and nothing shows up when typing ip link.

Updated patch substitute kernel_read for vfs_read and kernel_write for vfs_write please see if this version gets any further.
Edit:
Adjust version check and fix debug message original version should have worked this is just a clean up.

The patch compiled and didn't give an error, but nothing happened, even after restarting, replugging in the USB, and running modprobe.

Dmesg is a little hard to decipher (especially since I rebooted after getting the driver to work and running modprobe) but ip l (no backticks, it wouldn't work with them) gave this:

This is a little different because the number before TETHERED_MOBILE_PHONE is usually 3, but I can't see anything where 3 is.

The module is loaded and from the ip l output it seems it tried to create a device, the dmesg output may explain why that failed without it I can only suggest trying to find an alternative driver or USB wireless adapter.
