Hi
I just updated from KDE 4 to the new plasma desktop using the procedure in the wiki. I installed using the plasma-meta metapackage.
Everything seems fine so far except one pretty critical thing, the dolphin file manager isn't able to access anything. It seems like it's unable to use the kio libs that are installed for some reason. So it can't even access a local disk, never mind anything more exotic.
I tried deleting the ~/.config/dolphinrc configuration folder and restarting. It didn't help.

I checked that the kio lib files actually exist where they should be (in /usr/lib/qt/plugins/kf5/kio/) and they are and are globally readable and executable.
This is the error that dolphin produces when trying to access the local drive (home folder).

If anyone could shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it.

What's the error? Not the dolphin message, the actual error?

Try a new user maybe it is some user config problem.

No joy unfortunately. I created a new user and it's just the same.

It works OK in a different desktop environment though. I tested it in LXQt and it was fine.
So it doesn't appear to be a user settings issue but looks like a system-wide plasma configuration problem?

Nobody will be able help you if you don't post the actual errors. Are you familiar with journalctl?

This is all the errors journalctl shows for dolphin when it loads:

Konqueror works fine as well.

I can't find anyone else having your issue, nor is there a bug report out on the kio-slave and dolphin. Both are up-to-date? If so, you might want to submit a bug report.

I just had the same issue. The libraries are all loading fine if I try and import them but dolphin refuses.
The realy strany thing is the following. Run:
dbus-launch dolphin
and it works.
It seems dbus isn't starting a session for my user, or any user for that matter. Will look into this tomorrow and report back if I find a solution that will hopefully help.

I think this one can be closed as [Solved] The issue it seems that if you freshly install Dolphin, as well as some of its plugins. The installation is expecting a full reindex of DBUS handles. Simplest solution to this is to do a complete x11 restart and a fresh shiney new dbus session hence:
dbus-launch dolphin
creates the handle entry and from then on, and several restarts later it works a charm.

Very nice the dbus-launch dolphin fixed it for me.

That's not a fix. It was a horrible workaround 2 years ago when it was posted, and it still is today.
