no block device for printing

Hi......

I have installed arch linux 0.6 with cups and I not found the block device on /dev responsible for printing (like lp0 or devices on /dev/printers folder - this folder doesn't exist in my system). I already loaded the module  parport_pc in the rc.conf. It doesn't work. I just created too alias in the modprobe.conf referencing this module with /dev/lp0 block device. It doesn't work too. My printer is epson C43SX and when printer is turn on, cups recognizes epson installed on the   /dev/unknown-parallel0, but doesn't print anything.

Any suggestions?

Thank You for everyone that help me.... tongue

Re: no block device for printing

I have a similar difficulty but I am a total newbie. I have discovered that I have /dev/usb/lp0. So far, I have found my cups server is not being recognised or is not accesible to root.

Thought I would just suggest though that yours might be a usb printer, and if so that is where you look. Also I think you have to have the printer switched on.

What the beep was that?

Re: no block device for printing

I've got it... it's works!!!!

This is a issue with VIA based motherboards. Load the module lp in /etc/rc.conf
