Can't connect to WPA2 PEAP| No CA cert | No inner authentication.

I've tried all day today to connect to my school internet.

Setup:
Gnome
Network Manager
Nm-applet

Gnome comes with wifi settings, I've configured my wifi settings for school, I've setup WPA2 PEAP and no CA cert, however there is no option for not using inner authentication. I've tried using authentications and none of them work, I can connect to other networks so i'm sure the inner authentication is what is stopping me. I have also tried using wicd / wicd-gtk with no avail, pls help.

Did you also try looking at your journal to actually *see* what is failing with what error?
Does your school use eduroam? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … on#eduroam

Re: Can't connect to WPA2 PEAP| No CA cert | No inner authentication.

Sadly it isn't eduroam.
I went and had a look using journelctl.

sup-iface[9x591c29b2170, wlp2s0] : connection disconnected (reason 2)
Activation: failed for connection 'BYOD'

Can't find anything more useful than that.

Edit: Tried using a different connection type: Dynamic WEP

sup-iface[9x591c29b2170, wlp2s0] : connection disconnected (reason -3)

Please provide the entire connection log, not just the final notice that "it failed" - that's close to useless.

grepping for the SSID won't cut it, it's nowhere nearly included in all messages from NM or its subprocesses.

Here is the grep for NetworkManager, I don't know how to grep for it's subprocesses.

edit: AndroidAP is my mobile data tether and is what I'm using to access internet for the moment.

Do not grep at all. Simply try to connect and post the tail of your journal.

Association fails outside the protocol.
Are you sure the network uses GTC as phase2 authentication?

right, I posted it in my title that the connection doesn't use a inner authentication, i've tried all 3 authentication methods and none of them work, I have tried changing it in the config files however these get replaced each time after trying to connect. Any Idea's?

Re: Can't connect to WPA2 PEAP| No CA cert | No inner authentication.

Ok, I did not get that from your OP - in part because it makes absolutely no sense.
The only purpose of (P)EAP is to provide an "inner" authentication. ("Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol")

Does your school provide some specs about their setup? Where do you know that it's EAP based?

Re: Can't connect to WPA2 PEAP| No CA cert | No inner authentication.

I have a friend (techicians apprentice) who was able to set up a online conversation with the admin of the school internet yesterday, we went through the settings saying that it was PEAP, He then said on the inner authentication that didn't think it was any of the options, The byod network is also accessable from my phone and it is indeed possible to state none as the inner authentication.

The same friend also has access to the wifi control panel, I will get more indepth stats in a bit.

Using my phone:
EAP Method: PEAP
Phase-2 authenication: None
CA certificate:Do not validate
Identity: 10twilldigg
Anonymous Identity:
Password: [Hidden]

Re: Can't connect to WPA2 PEAP| No CA cert | No inner authentication.

Stop NM, try to connect with wpa_supplicant manually: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … nual_setup
(It's not that complicated, ensure no NM service is running, bring the device up, run wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd on the interface)

See http://www.cs.upc.edu/lclsi/Manuales/wi … icant.conf for wpa_supplicant config examples, fill in the fields and just drop phase1/phase2 parameters. See whether that works.
