Tested with LTS kernel: Same thing, when I close/open the lid, no event is generated anymore...

I've just experienced this after upgrading on my T470s, as well. I'm trying to narrow down the offending package, but want to let you know you're not alone in the meantime.

Looks like this is fixed in 4.16.12. The lid switch events are missing for me in 10 and 11, but 4.16.12 restores them.

Thanks cdown. Unfortunately upgrading linux package to 4.16.12 did not solve the problem on my side: After reboot, evtest still don't see lid switch events :-(

No problem with lid events on 4.17.2-1-ARCH with Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th generation

Problem solved after a Lenovo technician found that the small magnet glued down the trackpad unleashed. The problem was a kind of hardware problem... Thanks for helping.
