I wasn't going to post this here, since I assumed it was a Pi issue, but apparently not.
With TigerVNC installed as a server on both Pi and Arch laptop, accessing via vncviewer on my Arch desktop results in just a white screen (and the only exit is to ctr-alt to another console and kill it). No errors in the terminal.
Starting in windowed mode works fine.
As I say, I originally suspected Pi, but since vnc to another Arch machine is the same, it seems to be an Arch issue.
The only "help" I can find via google is for the same problem on Macs, which simply suggested that changing the bit depth worked, but it makes no difference here at all.
Any ideas?

I have exactly the same issue. I tried pi and a CentOS 7 machine. Both shows blank screen when going to full screen mode. This only happened since about 2 weeks ago. It was working fine before.

The problem is after upgrading to Xserver 1.20. Tigervnc client works fine after downgrading to Xserver 1.19.6

This issue has been fixed upstream (see here). There will be a new release soon, until then you can use tigervnc-git from AUR.

tigervnc-git fails to build here, and to be honest, if upstream have fixed it, I'll wait (I don't really have the inclination to fix the build errors for what should be a short term solution).
Thanks for the info, though.
