Civilization VI refuses to launch

Pretty much the title. As soon as I try to launch the game, it closes itself without displaying anything, instantly. I've tried both steam-native and steam-runtime, but neither of them show any difference. Here's the steam output when launching the game.

GameAction [AppID 289070, ActionID 2] : LaunchApp changed task to ProcessingInstallScript with ""
GameAction [AppID 289070, ActionID 2] : LaunchApp changed task to SiteLicenseSeatCheckout with ""

GameAction [AppID 289070, ActionID 2] : LaunchApp continues with user response "CreatingProcess"
Opted-in Controller Mask: 37
Game update: AppID 289070 "", ProcID 28311, IP 0.0.0.0:0
ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/kuro/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

GameAction [AppID 289070, ActionID 2] : LaunchApp changed task to WaitingGameWindow with ""
GameAction [AppID 289070, ActionID 2] : LaunchApp changed task to Completed with ""
>>> Adding process 28318 for game ID 289070
Game removed: AppID 289070 "", ProcID 28311

According to the following wiki pages, I assume that the issue comes from that /bin/sh errors, but I'm not sure where they come from.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … ization_VI
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … _ELF_class

I've also tried to launch steam with some preloads (libstdc++, openSSL 1.0...), running steam-native --reset (and steam-runtime --reset), verifying game cache, disabling the steam overlay... but nothing seems to work.

here's the hardware info.

Re: Civilization VI refuses to launch

As far as I know, Intel graphics aren't supported: https://steamcommunity.com/app/289070/d … 18/?ctp=21

Not officially, but Civ VI worked for me on intel some months ago, while it was free to try for short period.

IIRC, I had to LD_PRELOAD something, but unfortunately I can't remember the details. I still have the game's configs, and looks like I had also set the 'EnableBugCollection 0' in AppOptions.txt

It used to work on my machine a few months ago. I'm also having this exact issue on my desktop, which is using a Nvidia GTX 770, so it's not a graphics issue as far as I can tell.

Re: Civilization VI refuses to launch

So, after reading a bit the last messages on this steam post, I found a solution.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/289070/d … 18/?ctp=91

It seems like disabling the steam beta made the game work again. I'm not sure what's the relation between the game and the steam beta, but it works, so who am I to complain about it.

I assume that this can be closed.

Re: Civilization VI refuses to launch

If you want to keep the steam beta, here is a workaround. You can set launch option to ./Civ6 "%command%" in the steam library.
