Hi all,

I recently upgraded to kernel 4.17.2-1.
I use to have "acpi_osi=" kernel parameter following wiki page. And up to 4.17 kernel it was effective to reduce power consumption.
With the upgrade to kernel 4.17 the acpi power got broken and I was not able to get battery recognized by the system.
Deleting "acpi_osi=" kernel parameter fixes the issue but the power consumption goes up.
Anybody had the same problem? If so did anybody found a solution?
Thanks
Ciao
Gianluca

Hi Gianluca!
yes I have the exact same problem. I am running Arch on a Macbookair and had the acpi_osi Parameter. Battery was around 10-11h.

After the recent update I coulndt suspend anymore, had no Battery status and my Battery was around 5-7h without acpi_osi.

I hope someone can explain or fix this issue.

regards

Re: Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina

On my macbook air (6.2), there are problems with displaying the battery charge
The laptop correctly shows the charge only when cmd "acpi_OSI =" or "acpi_OSI = Linux"
In other cases, my laptop is charged up to 79-84% (this is the residual capacity of the battery). On new kernels, the problem has returned again, and this point, I see many do not work.
I can offer to roll back to linux-lts, there is a 4.14.56 kernel, and it works. Or look for older kernels >4.16.13

Hey everyone, does anyone tried and succeeded with getting KMS to work with nvidia card and proprietary blog on rMBP 15"? I've tried guide from nvidia wiki page but TTY isn't accessible at all.

Re: Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me please.
When I am using the combo mic/headphone jack the laptop is still using the internal laptop mic and not the headphone mic.
How do I use the headphone mic instead?
My hardware info

Re: Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina

is it possible to boot into tty without nomodeset? if yes can you be so kind to share your kernel parameters, /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, and /etc/modprobe.d?

i can only boot into tty with nomodeset

fresh install on macbook pro 11,2 mid-2014, 5.8.5-arch1-1

Re: Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina

I have MBP late 2013, when I try to boot into archlinux from my USB to start the installation, it freezes on the following screen

4grcy4y.png

it just freezes, I waited and clicked some keys, nothing, googling around made me know that `bcma-pci-bridge` is the wi-fi chip, but I couldn't find anyone facing the same problem, I even tried a different USB stick, same issue

Edit: this guy seems to have a similar issue but with ubuntu

Re: Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina

Anyone had success running the proprietary NVIDIA drivers recently? I cannot get past the black screen and it’s been really frustrating
