Use of hotplug on USB 2.0 and IEEE1394
Is kernel 2.6.3 hotplug useable with usb-storage devices ? Since these devices are scsi devices it would seem hotplug is not an option since they are mounted and unmounted.
Therefore, it would seem that hotplug is not useable with storage devices. Is that correct?

You can use hotplug for storage devices.
I have discovered that all of mans unhappiness derives from only one source, not being able to sit quietly in a room

Either that or in /dev/scsi.

Thanks for the help.. Found it as sda1 after fixing the jumper for the IEEE1394 function on my motherboard. It is up and running with.... modprobe ohci1394.
It has very slow transfer speed so I assume the drive is at fault.
