Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

Nice.

I have been a Fluxbox fan myself.

For file managers I like light weight and full featured. I like ROX, you can use it as a file manager or as a window manager.

Recently came across an AWESOME file manager- Xfe

Initially I was a little turned off because it looks like Explorer, but just look at the features!!

One question: I use Dual monitors. Which of these window mangers works well with dual monitors (nvidia twinview)? Separate workspace/wallpaper for each monitor?

Bohdi

I use fluxbox on my dual monitor set up, with a desktop stretched across both screens. But, most apps see each monitor as the whole screen, so maximise buttons fill one screen. It works nicely because I can have the big desktop, but not with everything looking a stretched mess.

Gimme a shout if you want to look at my xorg.conf.

Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

Like Phraktured, most of my work is done in GNU Screen, but I use wmii-3, which is my absolute favorite.  I used Gnome, then XFCE, then OpenBox, then wmii.  I really like the new XFCE, but it's a bit more than I need.  OpenBox is nice if you like a mouse, I prefer keyboard though.  Oh, and I could never get used to Ion for some reason.  I don't know why.

RP is a cool idea, but I sometimes get confused with it because it's like Screen within Screen.

For file managers, I like the look of Thunar, but again it's a bit much, I used to use XFE and I like it a lot, but I do like 95% of file manipulation at the prompt.  I recently discovered mc though, and kind of love it, although honestly I usually find it faster to just type the commands.

Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

i've been using dwm for the past few days and i think i have found my wm, it uses the wmii idea of dynamic window management but without all the fluff. I love the default keybindings and its damn fast. Also another nod to GNU Screen cant live without it.

Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

I'll have to second that for dwm. I've been switching back and forth between ion3 and ratpoison for the last year or so. There are no config files and it's nice not to have to hack around in some lua script. dwm also handles things like gimp very well...which would sometimes be a pain with rp.  If you like tiling wm it's worth a look.

Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

I like KDE but dislike all the stuff that comes with it. I really liked Gentoo's split ebuilds, but the time it takes to compile kdelibs + qt + all the other crap, I coulda installed arch 10 times over. Xfce looks nice, but I've settled comfortably into fluxbox.

Fluxbox + rox ftw

Re: Your favorite DE/WM?

#!/bin/bash
if wmctrl -l | grep "PopUp"
        then wmctrl -v -c "PopUp" && exit
        else urxvt +sb -bl -geometry 127x30+2+0 -T "PopUp" -e screen -d -R popup
fi

That's what i use... bind it to whatever key you want, and it will toggle

<edit>
this requires wmctrl, from AUR.

I can't get yeahconsole working, but it seems that it's just another shell script, probably slightly better than mine tongue
