So I had accidentally hit the mute button on my laptop and when I unmuted it, the sound didn't work so I rebooted my laptop and still had the problem. I looked on Google and found several ways and tried those ways to fix the sound but they don't work. I've tried basically everything and nothing seems to fix it. Does anyone else have any suggestions to fix this? Also, my laptop is the Latitude E6420, knowing that may help.

What did you try?
Maybe alsamixer works?

If the first statement is true, the necessary answer to the question is "no". It is logically impossible for anyone to suggest anything you haven't tried if you have actually tried "everything".
I'm pretty sure you have not tried everything, and there may be things that we could suggest, but only if you properly represent what you have done so far.

Using alsamixer doesn't help.

I just updated pulseaudio, rebooted, changed some stuff using pacmd and now the sound works.
