changed modem and isp

I've been using TalkTalk ADSL with a netgear router. Just changed to Plusnet fibre with their router. My wireless laptop can use the web but my ethernet card on the desktop can't resolve addresses.  I can ping the router or an address like  8.8.8.8 but can't resolve adresses.  I've tried looking at network configuration details but I've had no success. Any help would be appreciated.

What steps have you taken, and what error messages have you received?

Re: changed modem and isp

Now I feel an idiot!  I rebooted several times with no error messages I could see, into xfce.  I'x just tried a reboot into KDE and  everything works, correct name resolution.  Whatever it was, it not works properly in xfce as well.
