[Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

Hello everyone,

I'm running an up to date arch linux desktop, and since 4 days ago, i cannot get my wired connection o work.
I'm really confused about what happened : I rebooted my system, and *poof* ! no internet anymore.

I've been looking for a solution for the past 3 days, but nothing works. Hell, i didn't find any post anywhere with someone who had the same issue as me.

At first, i thought DHCP was trying to get an IPV6 address, so i disabled that. Changed nothing.
Then i thought DHCP and NetworkManager were conflicting, so i disabled NetworkManager. Changed nothing.
I tried fiddling with NetworkManager config, manually giving it parameters about the gateway etc... It then said "connected, not internet". Depressing.
I thought maybe it was a kernel issue, so i installed the last LTS kernel. Changed nothing.

A very peculiar thing i... My wireless connection works just fine... I don't get it.
It's an USB WiFi antenna, but it works better than my Ethernet cable, and i hate that x)

I would really like not to reinstall my system again... If you have any suggestion of commands i could run to get more infos, i'd love that...

Thank you for reading !
Cheers

Connect manually and paste actual commands and errors here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

Re: [Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

Thanks for your quick answer.

However, i did not find your answer really helpful : in my question, i asked what kind of commands i should run to get more information.

I understand this forum is flooded by messages just saying "It doesn't work" while not providing any clue about what is going on. I apologize if what i did was similar to that.
However, the good way to respond to them is not "RTFM you newbie".
It's would rather be something like "You're not providing enough information, give us the output of this and this commands."

Anyhow. It tryed to connect manually with dhclient. I got that :

journalctl /usr/bin/dhcpcd -f

I apologize if my post is a little aggressive, i mean no disrespect. I just found your a little harsh, and not very sympathetic. I meant no disrespect.

Thank you again for your help.

I forgot to specify : my Ethernet is on enp30s0. The other one is my wifi usb card.

Re: [Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

tried to connect manually with dhclient. I got that :
…
journalctl /usr/bin/dhcpcd -f
…

How do you suppose dhclient causes output from dhcpcd?

Please post a complete journal right after a reboot

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io

Also let's see the general state of the HW:

lspci -v
ip l
ip r

Then i thought DHCP and NetworkManager were conflicting, so i disabled NetworkManager.

If they're running together, you got problems yes.
So better also post the output of

systemctl list-unit-files --state=enabled

to see what else is maybe touching the interface

On a formal note, please review your attitude.
Jason merely asked you to post a complete command I/O.
That's a very basic reuqest and there is objectively *nothing* harsh about it. You're registered for 5 years, it's reasonable to assume that at some point found the wiki, in particular https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration and linked there https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_Debugging
Also you apparently didn't even post in the NC.

Please don't ask me to demonstrate what a harsh reply to your posts might look like.

Re: [Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

Start with the basics.   What is the output of ip link   ?
Is the link light on on the computer?
Is the link light on on the router?
Did you check the cable?  Did you try a different cable? Do other computers work when attached to this cable?

Re: [Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

Thanks you all for your replies.

I found the solution : it was not software but hardware.
I had an issue with the power-line adapter i'm using : for a very strange reason, they stopped working. Apparently, they don't have enought power coming in...

apologies to all of you for wasting your time ^_^

Have a great day.
Cheers,

Re: [Solved] Wired connecton doesn't work anymore

They don't react very well to non-linear resistors, ensure to use individual wall-plugs and not some power strip where there're other random currents around.
Depending on how weird the circuits at your place are, switching lights can have an effect on particular wall plugs (something I actually encountered - turning on the lamp turned off the internet …)
