I am trying to get this to work with my arch Linux install. I purchased this in hopes to use this for Linux and windows. I usually connect via Ethernet cable but I recently moved and can't run any Ethernet cables.
I have tried installing this using the Linux driver (rtl8821AU) that is in AUR and still no go. They have stand alone drivers also I tried to use hereand still a no go.
I have wifi-menu, dialog and wpa-supplicant installed.
When I list the usb connected devices, it shows its connected
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0bda:b812 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.also when I run dmesg | grep usbcore
[ 379.032105] usbcore: registered new interface driver rtl8xxxuThe the driver/module I installed for the wifi adapter/extender is rtl88xxau-aircrack-dkms-git
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8 … k-dkms-git
USB drive is fine, I have also tested others with no result.
Any help getting this installed would be tremendously helpful.

Connect manually and report where it fails, with exact command and error messages.

Why move it it there? isn't this the correct forum thread for wifi and networking? This really isn't a newbie question....

This really isn't a newbie question....
Until you post commands and output, it is a newbie question. There is nothing in your original post that would allow anyone here to assist you. In fact, there is nothing there even stating what the issue is, other than the presumed "it doesn't work".

Im trying to run a command as per the wifi section in the wiki says to do to find your interface. Trying to run iw dev, doesn't show anything, just goes to the next line, there isn't any output to show, not sure what to do next

According to the output, your driver is r8188eu, or is that the other dongle you are referring to (which would be pointless to post, btw)?
Please describe exactly how you installed the rtl8821au driver/package: and the output of `lsmod | grep rtl` with the correct dongle attached.

Yes, that is the one I am using currently so I can use the internet, but it isn't the one i'm trying to get working. I mentioned it so it wouldn't cause any confusion.

Installed DKMS and the linux headers pacman -S linux-headers dkms
I cloned the file to my computer. cd to the folder, ran the installation file .dkms-install.sh. Installed with no errors.
I then loaded it with modprobe:
sudo modprobe -i rtl8821au
modprobe: FATAL: Module rtl8821au not found in directory /lib/modules/5.1.7-arch1-1-ARCHchris@arch ~]$ lsmod | grep rtl

Ok, I removed other package and installed this one using yay, tried to modprobe again and module wasn't found.

when I do enter dkms status, it says it's installed

How would i figure this out? I been at this for a few days now. I feel like a zombie trying to get this resolved.

The quoted line is from the dkms.conf file.
Edit: According to a search on wikidevi, the USB ID 0bda:b812 belongs to the rtl8812bu chipset. You might need this driver

Isn't this the wrong one too? This is rtl8812BU not AU.

As I said, the USB ID you gave in the first post is for the BU device. Maybe Wise-Tiger have changed their hardware without updating the download page or it was wrong from the start.

I wouldn't ever of thought to check this driver. It kind of works. It lights up now and shows my internet but Im unable to connect to 2.4 or 5ghz band. Troubleshooting it now

You have conflicting networking services running. Stop all of them and connect manually.

Unfortunately that didn't work either. Just using network manager. And adapter it's just idle

Just using network manager.
That's not connecting manually... Without the debugging errors proiduced by the manual process, there is nothing to go on. Read the wiki page, and work through it methodically.

I have via netctl. up link show dev wlp0s20fou7 shows the device.
ip link set wlp0s20fou7 up does nothing there is no errors

netctl is not a manual connection; it is a network manager that does what they all do, obfuscates the underlying processes.

Yeah I totally for got about using iw command. was able to get it set up and connected. Now I found out I have a short in the wifi adapter itself where it plugs into the actual adapter. Yay me.
