gentoo to arch - good to see

I love Gentoo. That being said, i get tired of all the compiling. Started using arch a couple of weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. I'll believe i'll stay for a while.

Switching to Arch and things really makes me happy :-)

However, I am still trying to find a fast and up-to-date mirror.

There is the <code>sortmirrors.pl</code> script installed by default, and also a few other ones posted here on the forums if you're having trouble finding a reliable mirror to connect up with.

Thanks, I did some search and found http://people.os-zen.net.
I have a download speed at about 200k/s and there are plenty of packages, I am really happy to find this mirror. :-) Greate thanks to those people!
This makes it much faster for me to switch to Arch. I am loving Arch even more and I am going to tell my friends things about Arch.

Is there this kind of distro which i try to describe?

All voices here told it, you spent more time to build up a Gentoo system. And you have nearly the same benefit, that you have a fast system on both sides, with Arch in less time. But Gentoo runs on more cpu architectures, and this a great benefit.

I run Gentoo and Arch on my Laptop

and almost all my (little) linux know-how I learned by installing, configuring and keeping these two Distros up to date...

Both have things I like and also things I don't like.

At the moment I prefer Arch

I thought I'd join the chorus! I just got my gui up and running last night. I used to run Gentoo back in he rc1.0 - 2004.0. Then with school and subsequently work thereafter, I got too busy to maintain it. I fidled with the usual distros (even *gasp* went back to window$ for a while), finaly settled on Ubuntu. I recently got tired of all the bloat and tried Gentoo again. I have to say that Gentoo seems to have gotten too big for the developers to maintain properly. I couldn't even get a working desktop running without getting a new compile error every time I tried. I still don't have the time for that much upkeep. I love a lot of things about Gentoo, but Arch seems to offers almost as much customisability, and a very comparable speed. And all it took was 2 days, and here I am!

I'm enjoying it so far! For me, the community can often be the make-it-or-break factor when choosing a distro. That was actually the thing I liked most about Ubuntu. But so far the community seems great here too.
