Pulseaudio detects microphone but there is no output

I bought a new usb mic and got it working yesterday. But today it no longer works.

Both alsa and pulse detect the microphone but they don't seem to pick up on any sound from it. I've tried to find a fix on the wiki and general searching but I can't find anything.

One thing I've noticed is that running

arecord -d 3 -f cd test.wav

no longer returns. It's just stuck. (It should take only 3 seconds from the -d arg)

The output of

arecord -l

is

**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: VT1708S Analog [VT1708S Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: PRO [KIMU PRO], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I've also checked and the mic is not muted on both alsa and pulse and it is selected as the preferred microphone.

Thanks in advance smile

Re: Pulseaudio detects microphone but there is no output

And which device are you recording on (given no additional information, the command as posted would record from the internal audio card not from the USB)? What's the output of

arecord -L
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sources
#During active recording
pacmd list-source-outputs
dmesg | grep snd
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
