Unable to port forward

As the title may suggest I'm having some difficulty port forwarding with my new arch install.

I am aware that by default iptables is shipped with no preset rules, hence I expected to just be able to set my port forwarding rules on my router and then I'd be set.

However, this is not the case. I am specifically port forwarding tcp/udp 27015 for use with my dedicated Garry's Mod server.

ss -lnt shows that 27015 is listening for incoming traffic on my PC, and as stated previously my router is set to forward 27015 traffic to me, and yet any method I use to actually connect via this port fails (port checking websites, telnet etc).

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should try troubleshooting? I've already reset connection to my router (I'm using NetworkManager) and tried setting iptables rules (even though this should not be necessary if my understanding is correct).
