[SOLVED] Pacstrap doesn't include key packages

EDIT: For the lazy, solution of missing preset files is "pacstrap /mnt linux" as according to the installation wiki.

I've practiced installing a few times in VirtualBox before committing to switching over from Windows. Each time after running pacstrap base or base base-devel in the VM I had nano and mkinitcpio working immediately after arch-chroot /mnt.

Now using the same .iso to boot from a flash drive on my main PC I get to that step and I have to manually get nano and mkinitcpio (haven't checked for other packages missing beyond this step yet). I wouldn't necessarily mind manually installing, except mikinitcpio -p linux and mkinitcpio -P both fail because I have no mkinitcpio.d file in /etc/ (and therefore no presets) I am doing it differently on my main PC. One boot/efi partition of 200M and then the rest of my SSD dedicated to LVM on LUKS. I've used the Wiki exclusively for installation, namely:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

Until I reach the partition section, where I switch to:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … VM_on_LUKS

Steps I've taken:

1. Wiped the second partition and started over, making extra sure to follow the steps.
2. Downloaded a fresh version of the .ISO and flashed it to a USB (Rufus if it matters). UEFI (no CSM). Repeat step 1 twice.
3. Googled around a while, the only other situation I found similar was here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168816 but didn't really help me out there.

Any thoughts for an Arch newbie?

Re: [SOLVED] Pacstrap doesn't include key packages

This makes sense, but then is there a certain template I can download for the step in the wiki?

For LVM, system encryption or RAID, modify mkinitcpio.conf(5) and recreate the initramfs image:

# mkinitcpio -p linux

As this still reports no template after pacman -S mkinitcpio

What is the current list you are passing to pacstrap?

Re: [SOLVED] Pacstrap doesn't include key packages

The linux.preset file is part of the kernel (linux) package. The Installation Guide install step now includes installing the kernel package.

Re: [SOLVED] Pacstrap doesn't include key packages

Thank you. I don't know if I missed this somehow switching from VM to base or what but I feel dumb now seeing the pretty colors as mkinitcpio does its thing. Marked solved.
