Initial generation of initramfs images when installing dracut

There was a thread yesterday on how to stop mkinitcpio from running on linux upgrades as mkinitcpio is executed via a hook when upgrading or installing linux (but mkinitcpio doesn't exist if you use dracut exclusively).
The linked wiki page has also notes on how to re-create the initramfs with dracut when the kernel changes. Basically re-creating the functionality for dracut which already ships by default for mkinitcpio with the linux package.

So far so good but what I am trying to figure out is what actually creates the first initial initramfs when I am setting up the system with dracut.
There is unchanged "/boot/initramfs-linux.img" and a "/boot/initramfs-linux-fallback.img" file on my system which was created by dracut when it was installed together with linux but I can't figure out how and with which arguments they were created.
As there is no hook dracut must have been called from somewhere else. I looked through the files which ship with the dracut package (besides a lot of other files which I believed might be related) but couldn't spot anything specific. Would be great if someone could give me some pointers where I should look as I am out of ideas, thanks!
