[Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

Hey,

I wanted to connect my Sony WH-100xm3 headphones via bluetooth to my Lenovo T480s.

I followed the configuration as described to connect the headphones.
It also worked in the plasma system settings to connect them.

However, I cannot select the headphones (even when bluetooth is connected) in pavucontrol as output devices.
Only "Speakers" and "Headphones (unplugged)" is available under output devices.

>> pactl list | grep -C2 A2DP
returns nothing.

When I plug them in, it works. But I want to use them via bluetooth.

Any ideas?

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

You'd want to use pactl list | grep -C2 a2dp the string is unlikely to ever be uppercase.

That said, is pulseaudio-bluetooth installed? and what are your outputs for

pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks

in [ code ] [ /code ] tags.

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

Some progress from my side:

I managed to set up the Bluetooth headset on another laptop of mine running Arch Linux and Cinnamon instead of KDE Plasma as desktop environment.
Worked like a charm. After pairing and connecting via bluetoothctl I found the headset in pavucontrol.

Maybe a conflict of pulseaudio and plasma sound tools?

Here is the relevant output of the commands previously asked for (but now on Cinnamon laptop):
pactl list | grep -C2 a2dp

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

Shouldn't be, all relevant plasma tools use and rely on pulseaudio if present and pulse is what's supposed to give you access to the bluetooth card. Which actual bluetooth adapter is in use on each system? First one looks intel, they have been plagued with firmware issues recently. Might have luck downgrading linux-firmware a few notches.

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

This started happening to me after updating yesterday. Worked fine before that.

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

On my Lenovo T480s, where the headset does not work, the wifi (and bluetooth) adapter is (from lspci):
Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)

On my Lenovo Edge E330, where the headset does work, the wifi adapter is (found the specs online as I do not have the E330 with me at the moment):
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (b/g/n = Wi-Fi 4), Bluetooth Intel Centrino 4.0

Do you have a suggestion which version of the linux-firmware to test?

@Dheart:
You have the same network adapter and similar issues?
Do you know which update specifically caused the troubles?

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

@beef, I have

3d:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)

I managed to get it to work by restarting the bluetooth, removing all entries for the headphones and re-pairing. Idk which update exacty broke it, because it was a massive one, including kernel.

Cheers

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

I have bought a USB Bluetooth dongle (this one: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B009ZI … TF8&psc=1)

I was hoping that I simply plug it in and everything works, but it does not sad
Same problem as before and
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinks

still shows 1 card / 1 sink.

I have disable bluetooth coexistence according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … oexistence.

Re: [Solved] Bluetooth headset not available in pavucontrol Sony WH-100xm3

Solution:
I had to put the headphones in pairing mode before pairing and connecting.

Sorry for all the trouble and thanks for your help smile
