[SOLVED] VPN: openvpn vs plasma networkmanager

Hey together,

i have vpn problem i am not able to fully understand:

I configured my vpn connection with networkmanager (plasma-nm-5.18.4.1-1) and imported it as VPN (openvpn) and so far it works. I can check emails with thunderbird (you need to be within my companies network to do that) and use ssh to severall servers. BUT, i have problems to reach some servers via ssh. I can connect to them with vpn.

On the opposite, if i use the same configuration without the networkmanager plugin and connect with openvpn (with sudo) on commandline i can connect to all my servers via SSH but its not possible to connect to the email server with thunderbird?

What do i miss here?

I already figured out i had to to add a line to my '/etc/resolv.conf' and add the company dns server to it. But its still not working .. maybe, becaue of different users? Like i start openvpn with sudo and the networkmanager does not run as root (?).

Re: [SOLVED] VPN: openvpn vs plasma networkmanager

I found the solution now .. like what i suspected. The networkmanager takes also care to set the right dns server. After i set this again, it finally works now. Still dont know, why i can connect to certain servers via ssh with the vpn build using the networkmanager. That remains a mystery, but everything is working now with setting it up plain with openvpn and thats all i need.

Can be closed.
