You've just do a fresh installation of your Arch Linux and now it's time to make your distribution look more funny/pretty/easy/cool/useful/what_you_want...
So, after an Arch installation, what do you do? What are the first files you edit? What are needed configurations?
Depends ... we talking Desktop ...
Arch & pacman are your new best friends be nice to them they will reward you
O search screenshot thread may be some ideas there.
Perhaps first installing xorg and then the windows manager of your choice
I'm not talking about what I have to do, I have already configured my Arch but I want to know what yo do after your Arch installation, what are your configuration tips...
well, straight after fresh install i configure my locales with locale-gen and set it also in /etc/profile. /etc/pacman.conf then gets a single server from germany coz i live here and then xorg and wm/de gets installed. oh and configuring X with hwd is one step too.
I always start by getting all of my console stuff (stuff that doesn't require X) setup and working. Only then, after all the console stuff is working, I install X and my favorite X apps.
2. /etc/pacman.conf <enable community
3. /etc/pacman.d/*** < change to local server
4 pacman -Syu
5 switch console while updating
6 /etc/fstab flip the noatime switch & write in my storage partitions
8 /etc/group <adduser to appropriate groups
switch back if pacman -Syu is done then
9 pacman -S xorg DE plus extras
10 set up mount dir for storage fiddle round with grub or lilo which ever i decided to go with
