Hi all,
We just had a power cut which borked my /var partition. fsck doesn't know how to fix it, so a reinstall seems to be the only option.
I downloaded the latest ISO image and tried to boot from it, but I get a blank screen after Reached target Multi-User System
At least if I set nomodeset I get a flashing cursor. I can ping the machine and I can also tell that it is switching terminals with <Alt>Fx as the num-lock light will go on and off accordingly. So it is still running.
the graphics chip is the horrendous ASPEED AST2300, but I've not had a problem with the default kernel and default boot options before.
I'm trying to find the old usb dongle to boot from, but I'd rather not start from a pre-systemd base!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try the April ISO instead of the May one, there is a bug report here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/66535. Also I think someone figured out a workaround for the May ISO here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=255375

Perfect, thank you!
Its been so long since I had a problem with Arch that I forgot all about checking the bug tracker.
