I plugged in a usb with tails. I pressed f10 to get to the boot menu and things seemed to work as usual. Then I got the no bootable devices message. I unplugged the usb and restarted and the no bootable devices message is still there. My boot loader is grub. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Following the advice in this article would help us to help you: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Boot the Arch installer and see if you can mount your installation from the live image.
Are you familiar with our Forum Rules, and How To Ask Questions The Smart Way?

I can still mount my installation and chroot into it from the iso.

Ok so I reinstalled grub and now I can boot again. Maybe I should start a new thread, but why would plugging in a usb, not even booting to it, break grub?
Offline
Having an usb storage medium present can change the device names seen by the system / kernel .
example :
your grub is configured to boot linux from /dev/sda .
The system sees the usb device before it sees your internal harddrive and linux assigns /dev/sda to the usb device and dev/sdb to your internal harddrive.
grub fails to boot.
Post you grub configuration and /etc/fstab .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

That makes sense. Its weird though because I'm using UUID's in my fstab. And shouldn't it start working again once the usb is removed?
