I am an owner of LENOVO Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and integrated intel graphics card. Everything used to work perfectly untill recently I fully updated the system and after reboot the lightdm stopped working - it shows only blackscreen with blinking cursor. I suspect it was caused by the nvidia driver update but I wasn't able to fix it.
The lightdm log looks like that:

Please wrap outputs in
code tags
. When wast the last update before "recent" ? prime-offload which I presume comes from optimus-manager fails to load, if " before recent" is prior to the python 3.9 upgrade you need to rebuild optimus-manager at the very least.

@seth I've had my mkinitcpio.conf set properly before it looks like that
# vim:set ft=sh
# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
# MODULES=(piix ide_disk reiserfs)
MODULES=(battery i915)
# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
# wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to
# override the actual binaries included by a given hook
# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
BINARIES=()
# FILES
# This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
# as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
FILES=()
# HOOKS
# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
# order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
# 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
# Examples:
## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
# HOOKS=(base)
#
## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should
## work as a sane default
# HOOKS=(base udev autodetect block filesystems)
#
## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
## No autodetection is done.
# HOOKS=(base udev block filesystems)
#
## This setup assembles a pata mdadm array with an encrypted root FS.
## Note: See 'mkinitcpio -H mdadm' for more information on raid devices.
# HOOKS=(base udev block mdadm encrypt filesystems)
#
## This setup loads an lvm2 volume group on a usb device.
# HOOKS=(base udev block lvm2 filesystems)
#
## NOTE: If you have /usr on a separate partition, you MUST include the
# usr, fsck and shutdown hooks.
HOOKS=(base udev autodetect keyboard modconf block encrypt filesystems fsck)

# This parameter defines the method used to power switch the Nvidia card. See the documentation
# for a complete description of what each value does. Possible values :
#
# - nouveau : load the nouveau module on the Nvidia card.
# - bbswitch : power off the card using the bbswitch module (requires the bbswitch dependency).
# - acpi_call : try various ACPI method calls to power the card on and off (requires the acpi_call dependency)
# - custom: use custom scripts at /etc/optimus-manager/nvidia-enable.sh and /etc/optimus-manager/nvidia-disable.sh
# - none : do not use an external module for power management. For some laptop models it's preferable to
# use this option in combination with pci_power_control (see below).

Hey,
I also have this laptop, but I don't use hybrid setup at all, only nvidia, and my DM is SDDM. I have hybrid option disabled in bios, since I need it to work properly with external monitors.
I have these modules enabled on my mkinitcpio.conf, you can try the same -
battery nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm
I experienced the same issue when i915 was enabled
PS Initially I found this topic when I was having issues with the touchpad. I googled for "Synaptics TM3512-010" and came here. For the last year I luckily used xf86-input-libinput but recently it stopped working normally: the sensitivity became low on fast movments, also tap-to-click was unstable. I installed xf86-input-synaptics and got it fixed. I noticed that was listed as "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" earlier with "xinput list", but now it's "Synaptics TM3512-010", looks like something was updated. UPD No, it doesn't work Using touchpad is still very unpleasant..
UPD2. Got it! I forget there was a fix on Wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … )#Touchpad). The device was renamed and the fix stopped working. I'll update wiki page with the new name.
UPD3. This is driving me crazy. Sometimes the touchpad works fine, sometimes no. I saw somebody reported the same in debian mailing list couple of days ago after upgrading kernel from 5.9.15 to 5.10.4, probably I'll just downgrade

What's wrong with my X configuration that it doesn't see any output device.

What do you assume this does?
I know nothing about optimus-manager but assume that you'll have to explicitly re-create the xorg config file after altering the optimus-manager config?
Offline
@seth As far as I understand optimus manager it generates the xorg config file and saves it based on the optimus-manager.conf
I changed the config as you said:
# and selects a proper GPU mode. See the other options below.
startup_mode=intel
# GPU mode to select when startup_mode=auto and the computer is running on battery.
# Possible values: nvidia, intel, hybrid
startup_auto_battery_mode=intel
# GPU mode to select when startup_mode=auto and the computer is running on external power.
# Possible values: nvidia, intel, hybrid
startup_auto_extpower_mode=intel
And run
X -retro
this time I didn't receive black screen with blinking cursor but white screen (so it's a little improvement)
the xorg 10-optimus-manager looks like that

I still don't understand why it's not working. Do you see anything suspicious ?
Offline
The last log doesn't indicate any problem.
"X -retro" should™ get you a gray (cross pattern) background and an "X" for a cursor - nothing else. That's normal.
Did you try to start lightdm w/ the updated X11 configuration?
Offline
I still get the blackscree with blinking cursor when I run
sudo systemctl start lightdm

the seat0-greeter log
** (process:2510): WARNING **: 19:18:46.484: Error reading existing Xauthority: Failed to open file ?/var/lib/lightdm/.Xauthority?: Permission denied
Error writing X authority: Failed to open X authority /var/lib/lightdm/.Xauthority: Permission denied
I reinstalled the lightdm and lightdm-gtk-greeter also set chmod 664 to the .Xauthority file
-rw-rw-r-- 1 przemek przemek 58 12-04 17:14 /home/przemek/.Xauthority
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 1102 01-01 17:59 /var/lib/lightdm/.Xauthority
and it's still not working.

Updated Xorg log?
[+0.99s] DEBUG: XServer 0: Connecting to XServer :0
[+1.05s] DEBUG: Launching process 2506: /sbin/prime-offload
[+0.00s] DEBUG: Loading configuration from /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/20-optimus-manager.conf
Looks kinda like lightdm switches back to nvidia?
