probably still better then treating repository stable as testing ...

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

I've worked out how to run the webapp using the new user, it involves adding a new php-fpm pool. E.g. create /etc/php/php-fpm.d/nextcloud.conf: (or /etc/php7 if you're using a nextcloud package that uses php7):

[nextcloud]
user = nextcloud
group = nextcloud
listen = /run/nextcloud/nextcloud.sock
listen.owner = http
listen.group = http
chdir = /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud
pm = dynamic
pm.max_children = 15
pm.start_servers = 2
pm.min_spare_servers = 1
pm.max_spare_servers = 3
env[TMP] = /tmp

Note that listen.owner & listen.group should match your web server's user/group (I'm running nginx with the default user/group, http)
Then update your nginx config or whatever to use this pool's socket:

upstream php-handler {
        server unix:/run/nextcloud/nextcloud.sock;
}

I'll update the wiki with these instructions. The maintainer seems to have picked up the same idea so here's hoping he provides a sample config file in a future version of the package.

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

What worked for me as a workaround to get nextcloud 21 working until I can get php8 fully functional:

0. install php7-fpm , php7-intl , php7-gd , php7-redis (if you use it).
1. diff /etc/php and /etc/php7. /etc/php should have your settings and they should be ported to /etc/php7.
2. stop php-fpm, systemctl edit php-fpm7 , add the paths to avoid the "cannot edit the configuration" error of nextcloud.
3. backup your configuration, should be under /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config/config.php . Then overwrite the file /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config.php with the previous one. Make sure that this file has http : http owner/group (or insert the user your webserver is using).
4. make sure that your webserver will redirect the traffic to the correct socket for php-fpm7, which should be /run/php-fpm7/php-fpm.sock.
5. sudo -u http php7 /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ upgrade
6. restart php-fpm7, nginx

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

Did anyone get the custom app directory to work yet?

For me almost everything works, and I can also install apps into /var/lib/nextcloud/apps/, but if I open Nextcloud in the browser the app icons at the top are missing (translated texts like "Calendar" show up, but no icon). When I try to open e.g. the calendar app by clicking on the empty icon, I only get an empty page.

Found no logs anywhere, except in the browser log "could not load <script> with source "https://XXX/wapps/calendar/js/calendar.js?v=430852ba-0"

Do I have to configure nginx somehow so that this also works? In my previous installation, I had the apps in the standard directory, which is now not writable anymore.
All standard apps (dashboard, files, photos) work without problem.

All permissions seem to be in place as well...

EDIT: solved.
Permission issue, the http user needs to access /var/lib/nextcloud/apps, otherwise it won't work. However permissions on /var/lib/nextcloud are too strict. Bug opened by someone else: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/69730

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

Well I don't know bout you guys, but I'm personnaly having a REALLY bad time.

Setup :
NEW installation on a NEW machine, nothing was installed before. Linux 5.10.16-arch1-1, installed it around 7 hours ago.

Packages installed :
apache
mariadb
redis
imagemagick
php
php-apcu
php-fpm
php-gd
php-geoip
php-igbinary
php-imagick
php-imap
php-intl
php-memcached
nextcloud 21.0.0-6

Did the installation of apache/mysql/php as usual (with all the PHP-FPM suggestions that I found either here or on the main wiki) with the only exception that I enabled HTTP/2.

The result is that absolutely nothing wants to work.

The default install shows a 500 internal server error on the webpage, with either
- the provided config.php present
- the provided config.php deleted
- my previous config.php copied over

I tried using all kind of combination of http:http and nextcloud:nextcloud owner on both /etc/webapps/nextcloud and/or /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud

The closest I got is having a [2006] Mysql server is gone error from `occ` with a 500 internal server error webpage showing that the mysql driver is not present.

`php -m | grep my` shows mysqli, mysqlnd and pdo_mysql

I really don't have a freaking clue on what happens. It messed up my main server (which was using mpm_prefork and apache's mod_php) which is why I tried a new machine from scratch, and I now have zero clue as to what is happening or what I'm supposed to do.

If you guys have any idea, please let me know, I'm dying to have an answer.

EDIT: new machine, just tried with mod_php as well, same result.
Tried to access mysql through localhost:3306, 127.0.0.1:3306 or localhost:/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock (which is present). All three respond properly when trying to manually connect to the database with the user/password that I set.

rm /etc/pacman.d/hooks/nextcloud.hook && ln -s /usr/share/doc/nextcloud/nextcloud.hook /etc/pacman.d/hooks/nextcloud.hook

Attention with the hook, better first copy the file and do not set a symlink until the author has cleaned up the matter with the nextcloud user.
Because this file will run the update routine as user nextcloud and not as user http.
So better copy the file for now and change the user to http.

Agree. Thank you. Edited the first post smile

I should maybe mention that with php7 or php8, mariadb seems to not receive any authentication information and, in journalctl, shows :

The package data is maintained by the package manager and not the application, it is insecure having the application with write access to its data especially with one that  is open to the outside.

You complain now because you do not configure the software properly.

If you use the nextcloud the permissions are more separted between the other apps that use the http user.

One more thing I noticed - I'm doing pwauth ("Unix user backend" app) authentication of a handful of nextcloud system users. The respective AUR package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pwauth/ compiles to only allow user #33 (http) to suid run pwauth, thus breaking authentication running from this new "nextcloud" user. No idea how to fix this except re-compile pwauth with #define SERVER_UIDS 33,960 (960 being the nextcloud uid).

Have you checked that the TMP env var is being passed onto Nextcloud? E.g. in your php-fpm .conf. I've got in /etc/php/php-fpm.d/nextcloud.conf:

[nextcloud]
...
env[TMP] = /tmp

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

I've been postponing the PHP 7 -> 8 upgrade. Today I saw new version for nextcloud and decided to do the upgrade. I got it working in four hours and I want to thank especially williamvds for your instructions regarding the php-fpm pool. I just followed those instructions and wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … 3E=_21.0.0

Here is what I had to do in case it helps someone else. My environment consists of nginx and php-fpm.

1) After upgrading the packages I had the original nextcloud config in /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config/config.php. The new one was in the same directory as config.php.pacnew. I backed up the original and then added the "apps_paths" section and "logfile" line from .pacnew to the original config.php. I also replaced the "datadirectory" line in config.php with the one from config.php.pacnew.
2) I copied all the files in original data directory to the new one:

cp -ar /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/data/* /var/lib/nextcloud/data/

3) Change the ownership for the new nextcloud user:

chown -R nextcloud:nextcloud /var/lib/nextcloud/data/

4) Create the new file /etc/php/php-fpm.d/nextcloud.conf as instructed below by williamvds. I also modified my Nextcloud's nginx config file /etc/nginx/nextcloud.conf, where I had to change it to use new pool socket.
5) Restart php-fpm and nginx.
6) Open nextcloud in browser and run the upgrade wizard that appeared.

@williamvds
Yes I tried this with out success then I've pointed tmpdir to location owned by nextcloud and still no success.

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

I now tried to follow all directions to update with the new nextcloud user.
Changes apps and data directory to /var/lib/nextcloud, both belongin to user nextcloud. I added the nextcloud pool for php-fpm and changed the nginx configuration acordingly. Overrides for php-fpm.service are also set.
Still I get the error that config is not writable when trying to update.
I don't really understand how config.php should be managed now in this scenario. It is in /etc/webapps/nextcloud now belonging to nextcloud:nextcloud. Still there is a config.php in /usr/share/webapps/nexcloud/config/, if I delete it, it is recreated when I try to open the webpage.. I now symlinked /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config.php to /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/config/ but I guess its not the supposed way.
Help is appreciated ;-)

Personally I managed to make Nextcloud "run" (I had to "undelete" the overwritten config file, but as I have /usr directory under separate partition, this was not too difficult), however, I ran into  this bug/

Re: Nextcloud 21.0.0.2-21.0.0.9 sevral issues, index in first post

So, here I am, having a hard time with this as well. I assumed that it is better to reply to this topic rather than open a new one. Installed version is 21.0.07, which I upgraded directly from the 20.x version.

I tried to follow all the suggestions made in the wiki to get a new running setup with the separate nextcloud user and all. The one problem that I'm facing is that when I want to upgrade the installation using

/usr/bin/runuser -u nextcloud -- /usr/bin/php /usr/bin/occ upgrade

will paste the content of the occ wrapper in /usr/bin without #!/usr/bin/env bash

Executing

/usr/bin/runuser -u nextcloud -- /usr/bin/php /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ upgrade

returns

Could not open input file: /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ

The file is definitely there:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 283 Feb 21 18:56 occ

Changing the user to root

/usr/bin/runuser -u root -- /usr/bin/php /usr/bin/occ upgrade

will paste again the content of the occ wrapper in /usr/bin

Correspondingly:

/usr/bin/runuser -u root -- /usr/bin/php /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ upgrade
An unhandled exception has been thrown:
ParseError: syntax error, unexpected token "=>" in /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config/config.php:27
Stack trace:
#0 /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/lib/private/Config.php(68): OC\Config->readData()

#5 /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ(11): require_once('/usr/share/weba...')
#6 {main}

The reference to line 27 in config.php belongs to the new "Writable apps directory" section in the nextcloud wiki (I replaced the square brackets from the wiki with parenthesis to match the current format of the config.php, if it matters):

'apps_paths' => (
        (
                'path'=> '/usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/apps',
                'url' => '/apps',
                'writable' => false,
        ),
        (
                'path'=> '/var/lib/nextcloud/apps',
                'url' => '/wapps',
                'writable' => true,
        ),
),

I am slightly confused. Can somebody give me a hint where the problem may be hidden? Thanks a lot!

There is a symlink from /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/config/ to  /etc/webapps/nextcloud/config/

I got the "config is not writable" error when I tried to use the /usr/share/webapps/nextcloud/occ command. If I do it

 sudo occ

the error vanishes.

I have the same issue here. Did you get any further? There is also an issue on github: https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues/25746

I tried it as root, sudoing as the non-root user, both in the webapps/nextcloud folder and in /usr/bin
