[SOLVED] Disappearing GNOME Windows

Description of a problem.

After some time of working on my system (GNOME login shell) all windows become black and, sometimes, icons disapear.

The problem did exist before my last update, but the working time until it happens was sufficiently long, that I did not care about it much. However, after my last update "the crash" happens within 5 minutes span, which makes my work barely possible.

Details

My ArchLinux is installed on VirtualBox v. 6.1.18 with host system Windows 10

The logfile is

What I tried to do

1. I tried to google posts with a similar problem - no results

2. I tried to switch back from Wayland to X11 by uncommenting the appropriate line in /etc/gdm/custom.con
This made things worse, because GUI did not work from the very beginning after that.

3. I read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … leshooting

Unfortunatelly I do not know how to do "rebuilt packages" as suggested in section "Shell segfaults" (I am not sure, if it even makes sense)

However, I tried to do fixes from section "When an extension breaks the shell" (i.e. deleting directories ~/.local/share/gnome‑shell/extensions, /usr/share/gnome‑shell/extensions or /usr/local/share/gnome‑shell/extensions). It did not change anything at all.

My question

What should I do to troubleshoot this problem (e.g. what log-files I should look into, or other things I should check?)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [SOLVED] Disappearing GNOME Windows

That's an outdated xorg log, check your journal for the logs GDM creates,

sudo journalctl -b

for the current boot

Re: [SOLVED] Disappearing GNOME Windows

You're only looking at a single less page with apparently quite big line feeds, redirect the output into a file and upload the file somewhere and maybe check the end of it or page to the end with END

OOPS... you are right.

I posted the log here, hope it works:

Click this link

It is very long. Any tips what to look for in it? Or how to make it shorter and easier to comprehend?

Re: [SOLVED] Disappearing GNOME Windows

I solved the problem by turning off 3d acceleration in the VirtualBox VM.
