I recently installed Arch Linux on my DELL Inspiron 7591, and I don't get sound anymore from the speakers or from earphones. Sound is said to be getting redirected to a dummy output.
But if I connect Bluetooth earphones, that works.
I went through a few forum posts and understood nothing. This is an output of a few things that people have asked for on those forums

The kernel doesn't detect it as well.

That is one thing.
The other thing is since I installed Arch, my laptop is getting heated up way more than it used to. I presume it has something to do with the fan. I can't hear the sound of it running at all.

That's a sof-firmware card, install the sof-firmware package.
Offline
nope, still not working.
what I did was this,
sudo pacman -S sof-firmware
was I supposed to do something else?
Offline
alsa-ucm-conf might be needed as well, do you still not see a card at all? What's
sudo dmesg ] grep -E 'snd|sof'

I'm not sure about the code you asked for, I got an error for that.
Instead, I tried this, just replacing ']' with a '|'
$ sudo dmesg | grep -E 'snd|sof'

After installing alsa-ucm-conf package, the speakers are working perfectly now.
Can you tell me how you figured that out, I have no idea where to start learning about these things?
I'm still not sure if the fan is working, so that is one thing I still need help figuring out.
Offline
Make a new thread for the fan, we usually only want one topic per thread.
A whoops yes that should've been a | fat-fingered there.
As for figuring this out, the module list basically shows that your card is detected as a SOF card, which is a somewhat recent development for newer (~beginning of 2020 ish) audio cards and their firmware and those need sof-firmware for the firmware and alsa-ucm-conf for the configuration of which audio output should be enabled during which scenario.
Please mark this one as [SOLVED] by editing the title in your first post and open a new one for the fan issue. You'll probably want to setup lm-sensors and post the output of the sensors command so we have a ballpark of which kind of temperatures we are talking about.
