[SOLVED] XFCE/Cinnamon shows cursor and black background on 2nd start

Since a couple of days XFCE starts up with only a cursor and black background visible.
When I delete ~/.config/xfce4 it works alright, but of course I need to setup the layout again.
So instead of trying to fix it I tried Mate, which worked normally but some programs didn't work properly.
Then I switched to Gnome, which had poor performance in programs/games.
So I settled to Cinnamon. All seemed good, but this morning it seems like Cinnamon experiences the same problem as XFCE.
Same for for Gnome. I tried regenerating the xorg.conf with nvidia-xconfig but same result.
Anyone have an idea what I can do about it?

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE/Cinnamon shows cursor and black background on 2nd start

Please wrap that in

[code]code tags[/code]

Your glx acceleration is broken. If you don't have a reason for that xorg.conf to exist (read the only "config" you've done is run nvidia-xconfig), remove it. If that doesn't already fix the issue you are likely to run into the KMS race condition in which case you want to read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … de_setting

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE/Cinnamon shows cursor and black background on 2nd start

I've removed the xorg.conf but then everything gets really slow.
Tried the DRM kernel mode setting and still the same thing, cursor and black screen.

When I select Cinnamon Software rendering, it works fine.
After that I logout and login to normal Cinnamon and it works fine too.

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE/Cinnamon shows cursor and black background on 2nd start

That still sounds like the race condition, the kernel parameter will not be sufficient in that case you'll have to do the complete setup as in adding the modules to mkinitcpio.conf and regenerating the kernel images with

mkinitcpio -P
