What about Freenode?

Sorry if this is discussed somewhere else in the forums - I searched and found nothing.

A rather hostile takeover of the Freenode IRC network seems to be in progress.

I can't say I particularly like what I read, and checking if there was a discussion going on here, I found nothing - hence this post.

What do you think? Does it matter?

Here's a little info from Gentoo:

Re: What about Freenode?

Many FOSS projects, including Arch Linux, have established a presence on https://libera.chat/

Arch is still on Freenode, too.

Arch is still primarily on freenode. The channels on libera are more like placeholders, but some people are still using them.

Re: What about Freenode?

There's an ongoing discussion in the private Arch Linux staff mailing list, with options ranging from sticking on freenode, moving to another IRC provider, or using something else entirely. No decisions have been made as of yet, but I'm sure an announcement will be made in due course.

Just for info, Gentoo news May 26, 2021: https://www.gentoo.org/news/2021/05/26/ … acked.html

It's flabbergasting. And very sad.
I think they want to maintain an impression that nobody left?

Re: What about Freenode?

Same thing happened to many of the Arch channels. Staff got back #archlinux at least, though.
