Suddenly "no bootable device found", GRUB is not detected anymore

I have been using linux on my dual booted system along with windows for more than a year now. My windows is installed in UEFI mode and Linux is installed in Legacy mode. All was working fine and suddenly it stopped working so fine. I can't recall making any significant changes to my system last time I used linux. The important point to note here is that I can still just switch to UEFI and use windows.

Here is the /etc/fstab

# Static information about the filesystems.
# See fstab(5) for details.

# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
# /dev/sda4
UUID=50e4da06-d1b9-421a-9507-a1628497ece1	/         	ext4      	rw,relatime	0 1

And here is grub.cfg

#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
# It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates
# from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub

Any idea what might have caused it all of a sudden and what might solve it?

Re: Suddenly "no bootable device found", GRUB is not detected anymore

Something™ (windows?) nuked the MBR?

My windows is installed in UEFI mode and Linux is installed in Legacy mode.

I'd start by "why" and end with "just don't" - just install grub into the ESP, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB#UEFI_systems
