I'd love to see more up2date isos too. Althogh my arch will stay a while of course, but new users should get a good feeling also with the install.

cheers,

Re: New ISOs for i686

Tobias, is there a chance that these ISOs will be released as 0.7.3 (when TODO from readme.txt will be removed, of course)? Or there were no discussion among devs about this yet?

Since 0.7.2 there were many changes. Installing from old 0.7.2 leads to some problems for new users.

Re: New ISOs for i686

me provides new isos atm, perhaps 0.8.0 will base on it, but 0.7.3 will never happen and i'll not rename them.
if you all like those install isos chances to get them as base for 0.8 will rise.
i wanted just to improve the standard 0.7.2 image.

 I was hoping for 0.7.3.

http://www.archlinux.org/static/newslet … eb-05.html

We plan on having maintenance releases every 3 months, their version numbers will be X.Y.Z (like 0.7.1). Major releases will happen when there are large changes to the installation environment (udev, initrd, installer).

That was a decission of developers meeting on 22nd of Janary, 2006.

Of course devs can skip 0.7.3 and release 0.8 but I doubt it will be soon.  sad

Re: New ISOs for i686

one question: what is so different between these new isos and those famous 0.7.3 and  0.8?
nothing it's only a number changes, the new isos cover all stuff that changed in the last few months.

You have already answered to your question by yourself. http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/newisos/readme.txt  big_smile

Better hardware detection, works with USB devices, initcpio, archboot, better setup. It fixes a lot of problems with 0.7.2 install.
IMHO it could be released as 0.7.3 bugfix release, before devs will put more work in 0.8, which I doubt will come soon. But this is only my very humble opinion.  roll

BTW, can you please add selection of eth0 or eth1 for connecting to Internet.  roll

Wow, Tobias is my hero!  big_smile
I just haven't tried the latest ISO because I have slow Internet connection now, and it's not yet downloaded. And there was no word about it in readme.txt

Re: New ISOs for i686

the new iso's seem to work.  I burned and booted from the ftp install disc with no problems.  I didn't go through the install process, since I've got a working install now, but it did boot fine.  Thanks tpowa!
