Blaasvis wrote:pacman -S powersave
add yourself to the power group
/etc/rc.d/powersaved restart
and add suspend=/dev/<your> to you kernel boot parameters.then it should work
Why is powersave not mentioned as one of the dependencies for gnome-power-manager if it's required?
Regards,
Simon
this is the way i do it, but you can make your system use anything. And people do not like it if i force deps on them. g-p-m does more then just suspend/hibernate also stuff like dpms battry monitoring etc..

Blaasvis, ok I changed that. But now it still won't suspend and dmesg spits out the following:

try removing some modules, i can't really help you on this.
Suspend to {ram, disk} still is kind of tricky. Mainly on older hardware.

Blaasvis, good thinking. It was a kernel module that was causing this. I was able to find out which one and after I rmmod that kernel module, it now hibernates.

Blaasvis: You ought to add a option to powersave to remove every module possible (obviously filesystem and ide/sata driver cannot be removed) and reload them on resume, it saves a lot of problems by avoiding dodgy hardware and drivers.
As for older hardware, much older hardware would be able to use the APM suspend routines, which in many cases are a true hardware based suspend.

I have a AMD 2300+ sempron ( 1.56GHZ ) with I.0GB ram so it performs well because of the 1GB ram but I guess the processor itself is a bit obsolete hardware.
In any case, I am happy it worked.

Have not had any problems with gnome 2.16 thus far on my spare p2 machine.
Installed like a charm and have the old text in ~/.xinitrc:
exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session.
Waiting for the official release, though, before I install on my main computer.
Thanks and regards,

Working rather good here, palm sync with kpilot is also working.
The only problem I have is with gdm: I use the default themed login, but the ok, cancel and options button aren't skinned anymore, they are ugly gray buttons. Does anyone knows that problem?

mouse256,
edit /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/custom.conf
Under [GUI]
add
GtkTheme=Clearlooks
Offline
that option did skin te buttons, but they used to be otherwise, they didn't look like buttons before (hard to explain I know ;-) )
Another bug: I can't start korganizer from the korgac daemon. korgac places an icon in the systemtray which makes korganizer start if you click on it, but it doesn't work anymore. I don't get any errors either :-(
korganizer itself still starts...

I don't know if you are reporting bugs, but it is probably best to report at

Whats the status on gnome 2.16? I am guessing there is still work to do on this since it hasnt been moved to stable yet, but is there many bugs left?

There is a problem with extra/mail-notification :

mail notification broken? What do you mean?

Hello,
I have a question, when will be in current/extra gnome 2,16?.
Best regards.

Yes, what's wrong with gnome 2.16.1? Can't find any clue in bugtracker, not very deeply diged though.

mail-notification in testing is working - mail-notification 3.0-2, but it was a bit more tricky to set up this time. Had to choose among the mailbox identification options.
