[CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

Hello,

I'm getting what seems to be the same issue as here: [SOLVED] firefox 92 - video not working

The video plays for less than a second, then freezes. If I run "pulseaudio -k" from the command line, it starts playing.

Did Firefox break again?

EDIT: I closed this because it appears to be something with my USB interface, not Firefox specific. Unplugging my USB audio interface allows it to work with other audio output devices.

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

loginctl session-status
systemctl --user status pulseaudio
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
sudo dmesg | grep snd

and maybe terminal output from firefox while reproducing the issue, posted here in [ code ] tags without spaces, would probably be useful

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

No output from firefox when launched from the terminal. Do I need to enable some debugging flag or something?

EDIT: Actually some messages came up later, I'm not sure if related:

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

For testing, I turned off my audio interface (the Roland_OCTA-CAPTURE). The videos played and sound came out of the monitor over DP no problem. I also plugged in PS3 wireless headphones I had lying around and it too works fine.

So it appears there is something about the audio interface it doesn't like. I would really like to get it working however.

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

The stream is corked for some weird reason. I really don't know wtf firefox is doing with it's audio integration. FWIW does it freeze "freeze" or can you technically pause and unpause it and it just defaults to randomly pausing at first? A cork is normal if the stream is paused.

FWIW as a test if this really is the result of some weird corking you could try and comment

load-module module-role-cork

in /etc/pulse/default.pa

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

The player itself doesn't seem to freeze up. It is more like the video pauses (but it is not paused). If you hit the pause button, pauses and you can hit play to get the same split second playback.

Sometimes it is almost like their server times out waiting for the ad to play and will skip to the next ad and sit with a spinning circle.

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

I followed your steps and commented out that line. It doesn't seem like it makes any difference. I rebooted the machine to be safe since I wasn't sure when that file gets loaded.

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

From this everything should be working fine in an audio pipeline definition (firefox sends audio and pulse should be sending that to the DAC), so not quite sure what or why there's a remaining problem.

Re: [CLOSED] Video sticking in Firefox 93

Does Firefox do this for all videos from all sites? Does it do it on one machine you have or others too?  I have four machines and none of them have any issues playing video in Firefox 93.0 or any previous version.  I run Firefox in the plasma desktop, and although I was until recently using pulseaudio, I switched to pipewire a week or so back, and Firefox continues to play video in youtube as well as other news sites with no problems at all.  Perhaps your setup for the desktop and for audio has some custom configs that are leading to Firefox pausing?

Good point. It is any video. I updated the thread title. I tried Vimeo as well.

I'm going to close this thread because I've now found it is also happening in other applications besides Firefox. I thought it was working in Chromium but it was just getting further along before freezing, and no sound. I also tried the Apple Music web player and that freezes as well.

I installed pipewire since it seems like it is the future anyway and the problem persists.

I'm thinking there must be something about this USB audio interface it doesn't like.
