[SOLVED] XFCE problem about last session windows

Hello, XFCE has 2 GUI dialogs to shutdown the computer. The first one is <username> (top right panel) > power off. The second one is <username> (top right panel) > exit... > power off. The second mode has a flag to restore previous session windows positions.
The problem: 3 boots ago I powered off the computer using the second way and I checked the checkbox to restore previous session windows, so the following day all windows were in wrong positions compared to how they were, so I stopped to use this flag. The problem is that I continue to get these windows opened at startup even if I powered off the computer in the first way (so the checked box wasn't flagged) every time. It seems like there is something in cache that wasn't cleaned.

1) I'd like to stop XFCE restoring windows positions when I don't enable the checkbox.
2) I'd like to fix the restoring feature (if there is way) in order to properly restore windows. For example, actually if I restore two "Ristretto" windows with an image opened each one (one in the second workspace and the other in the first workspace), after reboot I get all Ristretto in first workspace and they are opened without an image loaded.

Afaik the canonical setting to properly disable  this should be somewhere in the system settings.

As for 2) That kind of session restore is basically impossible with the current means to that on most linux implementations and in general heavily dependent on the programs "to be restored", unless you opt for hibernation rather than a shutdown .

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE problem about last session windows

If understand you right, your problem is that you saved a session, and that session is loaded every time you start Xfce, and you want to get rid of it?

There are at least two ways to fix this:

  1. Close all windows and save session when you exit, that way you will still load a saved session when you start up, but the session will be empty

  2. Delete the files named xfce4-session-* under ~/.cache/sessions
