how to set connections to "metered" with iwd standalone

Hello!

Does anybody know how to set iwd connections to "metered"? my use case is that I don't want gnome-software checking for updates while I'm tethered to my phone. I'm running iwd with no front-end (NetworkManager, Conman, etc)

is it even necessary? does gnome-software and the like source NetworkManager for update checking, and therefore it will do nothing if it doesn't find it?
