Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

Hello,

I am trying to install Archlinux on my Minix Z64. It's a Intel Baytrail device with 32GB eMMC inside.

To run the Installer USB disk I have to pass the "acpi=off" to grub boot parameter or I cannot see anything on the screen.

But when it booted, I cannot see the eMMC drive (/dev/mmc0...) and the fdisk -l lists only the USB and loop devices.

How can I do?

Thank you!

Re: Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

I am seeing that these kernel modules are not loaded at startup:

mmc_block
sdhci
sdhci_acpi

But on the installation shell, if I modprobe them, I cannot still see the eMMC drive on /dev/mmc...

Re: Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

looks like you created a bugreport for it , https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/73231

Does lsblk show it ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

note: Fedora 35 and Ubuntu 20.04 installers can see the device

[ 60.408111] atomisp-isp2 0000:00:03.0: Support for Baytrail (ISP2400) was disabled at compile time

There are intel Atom System-on-Chip that require 32-bit efi firmware although they're 64-bit processors .
The bootloader used on archlinux installation iso doesn't support that .

Check https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unifie … re_bitness

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

@Lone_Wolf: the bug report now states the probable cause:

Probably missing this backport from efivar. It was pointed out in #archlinux-releng a day or two ago.

Yes, but my Baytrail system was the Android version and not Windows.
It has NO problems installing Ubuntu or Fedora 64 bit with the standard 64 bit medium

Re: Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

Do you boot Ubuntu or Fedora with acpi=off as well? If not, does that change the visibility of the eMMC?

Re: Booting the ArchLinux installer from usb doesn't detect internal eMMC

UPDATE from bug report: instead of using acpi=off, I can use `nolapic` in boot parameter.

- Ubuntu 20.04 installer: all OK without acpi=off
- Fedora 35: installer OK without acpi=off,  BUT after reboot to installed system, the screen is black. So I think I should put the nolapci here, too.
