SMART is non-existant?

This is weird...

smartctl --info /dev/nvme0n1 | grep 'SMART support is:'

Returns nothing.

smartctl --info /dev/sda | grep 'SMART support is:'

Returns:

SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
SMART support is: Enabled

Why does my nvme drive return nothing??

BTW, it's a Samsung MZVLB256HBHQ-000L2 drive.

The format by which an NVME drive announces  SMART support/error reporting is different and the output from smartctl not the same as when applied to an AHCI device, you can't rely on that exact string being present. Run and look at the output without a grep

Also please edit to append new information if no one has replied in between rather than double posting.

Does "smartctl -a /dev/nvme0" provide you any smart data?
But it's perfectly possible that the nvme has no smart support, see also https://archlinux.org/packages/communit … /nvme-cli/
