Re: sound stopped working

That's not really useful: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

What doesn't work, are you using an audio server, did this happen after an update? Which components? Kernel? Did this never work? Post

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -lL #Needs alsa-utils
sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'
#If pulse/pipewire
pactl list cards
pactl list sinks

Post these in code tags

/dev/snd/controlC0: yoge 29262 F.... pulseaudio

Re: sound stopped working

There have been a few reports with bugs in the current kernel version and audio device setup though afaik this would lead to device detection issues outright that I'm not seeing yet from these outputs, but still you could test a 5.16.7 kernel or whatever kernel was in use beforehand (if you go that path don't forget to downgrade the nvidia package to the version used by the older kernel as well)

FWIW if you don't want to go there yet, what's your info from

journalctl -b --user-unit pulseaudio

and if that does not contain anything useful the full output from doing a

systemctl --user mask pulseaudio{,.socket} --now
pulseaudio -vvv

Did you do any pulse config adjustments?

Re: sound stopped working

Which is why I told you to downgrade the nvidia package as well, alternatively install the linux-headers of the old kernel and use nvidia-dkms.

The outputs don't really help, pulse needs to be dead to give more information, otherwise

pulseaudio -k && pulseaudio -vvv

might work.

also to just generally test the problem cases I had in mind, the full dmesg output without filtering should some device access failures.

Re: sound stopped working

Symptom wise it just looks like a botched pulse config so you could also try and delete the user state by removing ~/.config/pulse and restarting pulse. But where's that still running pulse coming from?

ps aux | grep pulseaudio

also a full dkms would still be nice. how do you log in?
