[SOLVED] Youtube very slow to load after router install.

I can almost always find  a solution by searching the net, but not this time. I can't figure this on out.

After I installed a router, youtube is very slow to load, not just videos, but the whole site. I have to refresh the page 2 or 3 times to get complete loading. Videos are also very slow to load,
but once they get going are fine, no buffering, or stuttering. This happens on firefox, chromium, and also edge (on a windows laptop, which is the reason for the router, I need the windows
laptop to run automotive diagnostic software). Not really having problems with other sites. Arch updates work just fine, and at normal speeds. Speed tests are only very sightly less than
with a direct connection. I am on a comcast 1 gig connection. If I check the youtube stats while playing a video, they show very low kbs to begin with, but after it gets going they show normal
for my connection anywhere from 30,000 kbs to over 200,000. I can use a youtube downloader, and it only takes a few seconds to download a video. Makes no sense to me.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Mods feel free to move this if it's not in the best section.

Thanks!

Hmmm - youtube is one google service making extensive use of QUIC.

Can you try do disable QUIC in chrome (chrome://flags - search for "QUIC") and see if this helps?

Re: [SOLVED] Youtube very slow to load after router install.

That did fix it. I disabled QUIC in chromium, and firefox, now youtube loads as it should. I'll have to read up on disabling this in Microsoft's edge browser. I don't know much about
windows. I use it some at work, but only as a user to look up parts or service bulletins.

Do you think this was coincidence, or did the router have an effect?

Many thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Youtube very slow to load after router install.

I personally think the router had an effect - the QUIC protocol (and HTTP/3) is relatively new and the routers OS may not be (fully) aware of it. Look out for firmware updates and/or other users of this model complaining about this.

Edge (above Version 77):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

QuicAllowed (REG_DWORD): 0 or 1
